Hardie® Panel vertical siding

James Hardie logo

Board and batten siding for a whole house or an accent.

Hardie® Panel uses vertical fiber cement panels. Narrow strips called battens cover the panel seams for a board and batten look. Use it across your home or on a gable, the triangle below a roof peak.

What Homeowners Say About Us

Questions and answers

Hardie® Panel vertical siding questions.

Can Hardieboard be used for board and batten siding?

Hardieboard is a common name for James Hardie fiber cement siding. Hardie® Panel forms the vertical panels, with narrow trim strips called battens over the seams.

Is Hardie® Panel siding the same as board and batten?

Hardie® Panel is the vertical fiber cement panel that forms the base of board and batten siding. Narrow trim strips called battens cover the panel seams to complete the board and batten look.

What Hardie® Panel siding colors are available?

Available colors depend on the texture and finish. We confirm the current Hardie® Panel options at your consultation. Your project consultant brings samples so you can compare siding and trim.

How far apart should board and batten strips be?

The layout depends on your walls, windows and doors. We plan the panel joints and batten spacing together. We compare how the vertical lines meet the openings before you choose the layout.

Does Hardie® Panel siding need to be painted?

Primed panels are painted after installation. ColorPlus panels arrive factory painted. We confirm which finishes are available for your texture and discuss upkeep at the consultation.

Can I combine vertical siding with horizontal siding?

Yes. Hardie® Panel can work on a gable or entry with Hardie® Plank lap plank across the main walls. We plan the trim where the two styles meet.

Does Hardie® Panel always have wood grain?

No. Select Cedarmill has a wood grain texture. Hardie® Panel also comes in Smooth, Stucco and Sierra 8 textures. We confirm which textures and finishes are available locally at your consultation.

Can damaged Hardie® Panel siding be repaired?

Yes. We check the condition of the siding. If a repair is needed, we provide a repair estimate and then schedule the service.
