What Homeowners Say About Us

Questions and answers

Hardie® Plank lap siding questions.

Is Hardieboard the same as Hardie® Plank?

Hardieboard is a common name for James Hardie fiber cement siding. Hardie® Plank is the horizontal lap siding product in that range.

What is Hardie® Plank lap siding made of?

It is fiber cement, made from cement, sand and cellulose fiber. It stands up to the weather, holds paint well and will not add fuel to a fire.

Is a wider Hardie® Plank exposure better?

It depends on your home. We compare exposures around windows and across walls before you choose.

Does Hardie® Plank lap siding need to be painted?

Yes, if you choose primed boards. ColorPlus boards arrive factory painted. The finish affects available widths.

Can Hardie® Plank lap siding be installed vertically?

It is made to run horizontally. For vertical lines, we use Hardie® Panel vertical siding in a (vertical panel) look.

Does the ColorPlus warranty cover fading?

Fading and chalking from normal weathering are excluded. Excess color change coverage is limited to the first three years.

Does Hardie® Plank have a wind speed rating?

There is no single rating. Framing, fastener spacing, building height and exposure affect wind performance. We follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Does a James Hardie Alliance Elite contractor offer a longer product warranty?

No. Alliance Elite status does not extend product coverage. James Hardie does not warrant installation. Ask about our workmanship warranty.
