A self adhered membrane goes down first at the eaves, in the valleys and around anything that comes through the roof. These are the places where water and ice collect.

Roof deck protection
A synthetic underlayment covers the rest of the roof deck, under the shingles. It is a second line of defense if wind ever drives water past a shingle.

GAF covers the shingles and accessories. The installation can be covered by our optional workmanship warranty or, on a qualifying UHDZ roof, by GAF's Golden Pledge. On TimberSteel, GAF's ArmorPledge warranty is available for purchase through a Metal Certified contractor.
A lifetime limited workmanship warranty is available as an optional upgrade on qualifying full replacements. Your project consultant can walk you through it.
Certifications
GAF Master Elite®
The top of GAF's three residential tiers, and it matters because of one document. The Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty can only be offered by a Master Elite® contractor, and even then it needs a qualifying Timberline® shingle and at least five qualifying accessories, not just the certification. GAF's own conditions for the tier are insurance, licensing where a state requires it, years of experience and customer reviews.

GAF roofing questions homeowners ask.
Is GAF a good roofing brand?
Yes, and it is the brand behind every shingle roof we install. GAF makes the layers under the shingles too, and backs the complete system with its strongest warranties when a certified contractor installs it.
Is GAF TimberSteel a standing seam metal roof?
No. TimberSteel is an interlocking steel shingle, so the roof keeps the lines of a shingle roof rather than the long vertical seams of standing seam panels. For standing seam, Future Remodeling installs Drexel Metals.
What is the GAF Golden Pledge warranty?
GAF's top warranty for a shingle roof. On a single-family home, it adds 30 years of workmanship coverage from GAF to the material coverage. Only a GAF Master Elite contractor can offer it, on a Timberline UHDZ roof installed with five required GAF accessories and registered with GAF.
What colors do GAF shingles come in?
It depends on the line. Timberline UHDZ comes in Barkwood, Charcoal, Shakewood, Slate and Weathered Wood, and each product page shows its own colors. Your project consultant brings real samples, since colors look different on a roof than on a screen.
Can you install GAF solar shingles?
Yes. Future Remodeling installs GAF Timberline Solar, which nails in alongside Timberline shingles as one roof. We do not install panels on racks.
