GAF's patented shadow lines add contrast across the roof. Compare samples to see the difference from HDZ.
UltraMat impact rating
is GAF's high performance fiberglass mat at the core of the shingle. The UL 2218 applies only to packages bearing both the UltraMat logo and Class 4 classification statement. This is a laboratory rating. GAF does not warrant performance against hail, and hail damage is not covered under its limited warranty.

GAF shingle warranty
GAF's Lifetime Limited Warranty requires GAF Lifetime shingles. It applies while the original individual owner of a single-family detached residence owns the property. An eligible second owner can also qualify. Lifetime coverage does not apply to other owners or structures.
Golden Pledge installation coverage
GAF Master Elite contractors can offer the Limited Warranty on a qualifying, registered UHDZ system. It requires five GAF accessories: , , shingles, and . The workmanship coverage is 30 years for single-family detached residences owned by individuals. For other properties, it is 25 years.
Algae discoloration coverage
The 30 year StainGuard Plus PRO Algae Protection Limited Warranty covers blue-green algae discoloration. It applies only to products sold in packages bearing the StainGuard Plus PRO logo.
WindProven wind coverage
The Limited Wind Warranty has a 15 year term with no maximum wind speed limitation. It applies to GAF shingles with LayerLock Technology. It requires GAF starter strips, roof deck protection, ridge cap shingles, and either leak barrier or attic ventilation.
Limited lifetime workmanship warranty
A lifetime limited workmanship warranty is available as an optional upgrade on qualifying full replacements. Your project consultant can walk you through it.
Certifications
GAF Master Elite®
The top of GAF's three residential tiers, and it matters because of one document. The Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty can only be offered by a Master Elite® contractor, and even then it needs a qualifying Timberline® shingle and at least five qualifying accessories, not just the certification. GAF's own conditions for the tier are insurance, licensing where a state requires it, years of experience and customer reviews.
How a roofing project runs
We review the plan before the crew arrives.
Here is what to expect from the first visit to the final walk-through. The steps are the same whether we repair one leak or replace the whole roof.
Inspection
Your project consultant inspects the roof and the attic, takes photos and goes over the findings with you. Your personalized estimate is built at the same visit.
Preparation
Once you approve the estimate, we set the dates and order the materials. Your Project Leader meets you before work begins and reviews the plan. We review where the crew works, where materials go and how we protect your home and yard.
Installation
The crew arrives at the agreed time, and your Project Leader oversees the work. Most roofs are installed in one day. We clean up before the crew leaves.
Completion
We check every detail before we call the project finished, then go over the finished roof with you. We are here for you long after the installation.

What is the difference between GAF Timberline UHDZ and HDZ?
UHDZ features GAF's Dual Shadow Line, which creates dramatic shadows through the day. Compare it with Timberline HDZ samples at your consultation. We also explain the impact ratings and warranty options for each.
Are UHDZ shingles impact resistant?

How long does a UHDZ roof last?
There is no single lifespan for every roof. Installation, attic ventilation, weather and maintenance all affect how long it lasts. A warranty term is not a prediction of roof life.
Does the shingle warranty cover installation?
No. GAF's shingle warranty covers the shingles, while workmanship coverage depends on who installs the roof. Golden Pledge requires a Master Elite contractor, a qualifying GAF system and registration. Your project consultant explains the required components and the coverage that applies to your property.
How much does a UHDZ roof cost?
It depends on the roof size, pitch, , roof board condition and the complete system. We inspect and measure your roof, then build a personalized estimate at the consultation. Each part of the work is named and priced.
Can UHDZ be installed over existing shingles?
No. On our full replacements, we remove the old roofing so we can inspect the roof boards underneath. Your estimate explains how we handle hidden damage before the new roof goes on.
