Questions and answers
Hardie® Trim boards questions.
What trim goes with Hardieboard siding?
Hardieboard is a common name for James Hardie fiber cement siding. Hardie® Trim boards finish windows, doors and corners alongside that siding.
What are Hardie® Trim boards made of?
Hardie® Trim boards are fiber cement, made from cement, sand and cellulose fiber. They finish windows, doors, corners and roof edges. They are trim rather than siding for the main wall.
Can fiber cement siding trim be used for board and batten?
Yes. Hardie® Trim battens cover the seams between Hardie® Panel vertical siding panels for a board and batten (vertical panel) look. We plan the batten widths with your window, door and corner trim.
Do Hardie® Trim boards need to be painted?
Primed products are painted after installation. ColorPlus products arrive factory painted. We confirm the finish options for your trim texture and size at the consultation.
Is Hardie® Trim better than wood trim?
It depends on the look and upkeep you want. Hardie® Trim is fiber cement, which does not rot or feed termites. It is heavy. Compare samples and discuss finish care before choosing.
Can damaged trim be repaired?
Yes. We check the condition of the trim. If a repair is needed, we provide a repair estimate and then schedule the service.
Is the Hardie® Trim warranty shorter than the siding warranty?
No. James Hardie names Hardie® Trim in the same limited product warranty as its siding. The manufacturer excludes installation labor and accessory material costs. We explain product and workmanship coverage separately.
Who installs Hardie® Trim around windows?
A siding contractor. Trim around windows and doors is siding work. We plan it with the adjoining siding and , which directs water away from the opening.
