Hardie® Shingle siding

James Hardie logo

Hardie® Shingle siding for gables or a whole house.

Hardie® Shingle panels have the look of cedar shingle (shake) siding. Use them on a gable (the triangle below a roof peak) or around a dormer. They also work across a whole house. Pair them with lap plank to give different parts of your home their own texture.

Profiles and specifications

Choose a level edge or a staggered pattern.

The bottom edge changes the look of each row. Compare both profiles at your consultation.

  • Straight Edge Panel

The bottom edges line up to form an even row. Choose this profile for a more uniform pattern.

  • Staggered Edge Panel

The bottom edges sit at different heights. Choose this profile for a less uniform shingle (shake) pattern.

  • Panel size and thickness

Both profiles measure 15.25 by 48 inches and are 0.250 inch thick.

  • Fiber cement material

Hardie® Shingle is made from cement, sand and cellulose fiber. The cedar look comes in panels rather than individual wood shakes.

  • HZ5 for this climate

HZ5 siding is designed for freezing temperatures, thawing and seasonal moisture. We confirm the product and profile for your home.

  • Fire performance

Hardie® Shingle is rated noncombustible under ASTM E136 and under ASTM E84. A wall's fire rating depends on all its materials and how they are installed.

Finish options

Questions and answers

Hardie® Shingle siding questions.

Does Hardieboard come in a cedar shake look?

Hardieboard is a common name for James Hardie fiber cement siding. Hardie® Shingle is the shingle (shake) style, with straight or staggered edges.

What is Hardie® Shingle siding made of?

It is fiber cement, made from cement, sand and cellulose fiber. Hardie® Shingle panels give you a cedar shingle (shake) look in a different material.

What is the difference between straight and staggered edge Hardie® Shingle siding?

Straight edge panels form an even bottom line across each row. Staggered edge panels have bottom edges at different heights. We help you compare the two patterns for your home.

Can Hardie® Shingle siding cover a whole house?

Yes. Hardie® Shingle works across a whole house or as an accent on gables and dormers. It can also be paired with lap plank on the main walls.

Does Hardie® Shingle siding come painted?

Yes. ColorPlus panels arrive factory painted. Primed panels are painted after installation. We confirm which finishes are available for your chosen profile.

What colors does Hardie® Shingle siding come in?

Color choices depend on the profile and finish. We confirm available colors for your selection at the consultation. Compare samples with your roof and trim before choosing.

Can damaged Hardie® Shingle siding be repaired?

Yes. We check the condition of the siding. If a repair is needed, we provide a repair estimate and then schedule the service.

Does a James Hardie Alliance Elite contractor offer a longer product warranty?

No. Alliance Elite status does not extend James Hardie's product coverage. James Hardie does not warrant installation. Your project consultant explains the optional workmanship warranty.
